Dust: Part 26

The Start
Previous Part

When Tuesday evening arrived, Tamaya drove to her uncle Simon’s house. Supper was about ready when she arrived. Simon mentioned the accident before Tamaya brought it up, saying that he had been required to close down his shop for a few days.

“What happened?” she inquired, trying not to sound too interested.

“I don’t really know,” answered Simon. “Some government truck crashed and had some toxic stuff to clean up I guess.”

“So did you see it happen?”

“No, I wasn’t in the shop that day, and the boys had already closed up when it happened. I only went back there yesterday, and everything was completely cleaned up back to normal.”

“Huh…” Tamaya drummed her fingers on the table for a couple seconds. “But you at least got paid for the time you lost, right?”

“Yep, and a little bonus.”

“That’s nice…”

“So you gonna come to the shop tomorrow?”

“Yeah, why not…”

The pair proceeded to catch up on life, have dinner, and go to bed.

Heading out for work in the morning sans his bike would require that Keegan leave at least 15 minutes earlier, but he decided he should probably give it 20 just to be safe. He and Rick had also came up with a route that kept him a couple blocks away from the accident site at all times. Everything was as ready as it could be for heading back to work, but Keegan was still rather nervous about the whole thing. He had considered calling in sick, but he’d only be able to do that for so long. No, he’d best just get it over with…
