Dust: Part 17

The Start
Previous Part

After Rick and Keegan exited the building, Rick went to get a closer look at the mark he had seen on the sidewalk.

“Are you really that interested in a black spot on a sidewalk?” teased Keegan.

“I was just wondering what it is…”

“Well, the sun’s starting to get low, so I’m just going to go home. I’ll see you later.”

“Alright. See ya.” Rick mumbled.

Keegan walked to the nearest intersection, where he noticed the tape and roadblocks preventing entry to the quarantine area had been removed. “Hey Rick! It looks like we can go in now!” He hollered.

After running over to confirm, Rick gave out a disappointed sigh. “Well dang. I guess we actually will be going to work tomorrow.”

“Eh, I don’t know about that. Even if everything is completely sorted out I don’t think we’ll be called back on such short notice. Plus tomorrow is Friday, so either way it’s almost the weekend…”

“But why couldn’t they keep this up for at least a couple weeks? I like random extra paid vacation…”

Keegan chuckled. “Of course the one time the government is efficient is when it would benefit us if they weren’t.” He paused for a moment. “You s’pose we can go look around?”

“I don’t see why not, but I’ve had enough looking at that area, I think I’ll just go home.”

“Hold on, can I have the binoculars for a sec?”

“Sure.” Rick handed a pair of binoculars to Keegan.

“My bike is back!” Handing the binoculars back to Rick, he started jogging towards the bike which was now sitting on the sidewalk next to the intersection of the accident.

“Wait, are you sure that’s a good idea?” Rick asked, but Keegan was already more than a block away…

The site is clear, the quarantine is lifted, we have placed the bike back on scene, and men are posted in several places nearby, ready to move in on a moment’s notice. The men are equipped with tasers, which should hopefully allow us to incapacitate the target without any needless fuss. However, we have no information about how they will affect the experiment, so as a backup we have several snipers in nearby buildings.

Man, I never realized cliffhanger endings were so much fun to write. *cue evil laugh* >:)
I’m starting to use my real name (David) a bit more on my public internet stuff, so I’m gonna be signing off with it from now on…

  1. Hey, just caught up on the last 4 or 5 parts! Gotta say that I like the story, but find it hard to make any predictions or give any real constructive feedback with such short bursts only once a week. I see many directions this could take, and those branch off even more. I myself could take over the story here and go a dozen different ways.

Also, predicting where a story is going to go kinda ruins it for me if I’m actually right. I try to avoid spoilers for any story so I can’t predict what’s going to happen. So whilst I won’t be making any predictions where I think it’s going to go, I’ll tell you that I am very interested to find out the answers as the story progresses! And aside from a few spelling mistakes (which are totally understandable) there’s really not much I would say to change. I’ll definitely think about it and possible re-read through the whole thing sometime and see if I notice anything.

But for now, keep up the good work! Can’t wait for the next bits!
